27 January 2023
We are open for nominations for The Women’s Awards 2023.
This year we took the opportunity to make this announcement at the first event of the year. The event took place at Sketchley Grange Hotel, in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and was also arranged to thank our previous sponsors and look forward to what is planned for the coming years.
This well-attended event brought together business owners and influencers from across the Midland region.
Leanne Bonner-Cooke MBE, Chair of the SHINE Board shared the values of the organisation and hosted the panel of Sponsors and Winners who talked about their experience of the SHINE community, the prestigious multidisciplinary Women’s Awards, the benefits and impact of being involved.
were David Major, Director, Creative Direction, Carol Leeming MBE FRSA, Patron of the Women’s Awards – East Midlands, Carley Garey, Owner/Director of Saffron Catering Solutions and Sandra Pollock OBE, Founder of SHINE and The Women’s Awards.
Some of the comments from attendees of this event:
‘Motivated this morning by the number of stories I’ve heard about the obstacles overcome by females at both grassroots and senior level at the launch of this year’s Women’s Awards… – Namita Patel.
‘Fantastic to hear more about The Women’s Awards this morning with Sandra Pollock OBE and Leanne Bonner-Cooke MBE. A great morning in the company of such a passionate and supportive group.’ – Kerry Reynolds.

Carla Garey winner of The Women’s Awards 2020 Outstanding Female Entrepreneur of the Year was finally presented with her trophy and certificate. The delay was due to a range of circumstances that conspired to fraught all attempts to arrange other occasions. But we are delighted that Carley now has her trophy in her hands. Here is a comment she shared on her LinkedIn profile:
‘Presented with a woman in business award today! literally made my week! in fact my year! I met some incredible people this morning and I feel inspired to do more and raise the profile of diversity in business.’ – Carla Garey.
In response to a question about what difference winning this award has made to her and her business, Carla shared that winning this award has increased her confidence in going for and winning work that she would have never gone for before. Her personal and business confidence has increased tremendously.
Carol Leeming talked about her role as Patron for the East Midlands and the importance of her own win in 2017 has made to her own career and recognition in her sector. You can hear more about Carol’s thoughts about The Women’s Awards here.
