Here are this year’s Judges.
Kevin Urquhart
Kevin Urquhart is founder of Fraser Urquhart Media – Leicester’s most connected publicity agency and proud publishers of the iconic SIXTY9 magazine and dluxe LEICESTERSHIRE magazine. Kevin’s job is to work with clients and help them tell their stories – and he’s very proud to be, once again, Media Partner to the East Midlands Women’s Awards 2020.
Kevin joined as a Sponsor of the Outstanding Woman in Art, Media Music and Judge from the start of our journey in 2017.
Beverley Sankey
Entrepreneur /Lifestyle Mentor specialising in Health and Wellness Industry with Pure Safe and Beneficial products for ordinary people at an affordable cost. Teaching people how to redirect their existing spend on everyday consumable personal care products and nutritional supplements and by doing so create a residual income.

Sonia Thompson
Sonia Thompson is an international Organisational Development Consultant. She began her company after a successful career in higher education. Sonia sits on the Board of several organisations and has been active in the community helping to establish a number of charities, social enterprises, and two women’s refuges. She is the current Chair of WIMUK the organisers of this year’s East Midlands Women’s Awards.
Sonia is passionate about women and their personal and professional development. She believes woman power if only allowed to reach its potential could change the world.
Ron Simpson
A former Regional Director of the Local Government Management Board, Ron Simpson is known by many in the East Midlands as Mr. Uppingham. A long time champion of women in the workplace and community governance, he serves in numerous roles in local government and the voluntary and business sectors. See his profile at www.ronsimpson.uk
Professor Turi King
Turi King is a Canadian who did her undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge before moving into genetics at the University of Leicester for her masters and PhD. Her work over the last 20 years has been combining genetics with forensics, history, and archaeology.
She is perhaps best known for leading the genetic analysis in the King Richard III case. She is currently leading the genetic analysis in the Sir George Yeardley case in the U.S.
Professor King was awarded the EMWA Outstanding Woman in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) 2017.
She is also the proud mother of four children.
Karen Cureton
Director, Cureton Consulting, Karen is your local social media expert with a proven track record with her wide range of clients. She works with clients to talk fact not fluff about social media. She works both one to one and with teams, her online social media programme is getting incredible results across multiple sectors. Karen is also Winner, EMWA Outstanding Woman in Professional Services 2018.
Pete Frost
Pete Frost is an award-winning Director of one of Leicestershire’s most innovative digital marketing agencies who have been awarded the prestigious accolade of ‘Digital Business of the Year 2019’ in a recent Leicestershire business awards.
With over 9 years experience in the digital marketing field, he has had the pleasure in supporting 100’s of business achieve a return from their online marketing and is continuing to shape the face of the digital marketing sector locally.
In addition, he is a trustee of a leading mental health charity that provides secure and stable homes for people in need of acute mental health support across Leicestershire.
Helen Stewart
Helen has over 20 year’s experience in NHS/Local Authority managing specialist clinical training programmes for complex needs with Children and Adult Social Care and Health settings. Helen works alongside managers to coach and mentor a culture based on support and strong leadership
Kelly McCormack
Kelly is an Event Manager for University of Leicester, Film Producer for GM Finney Productions, Performer for Skytribe Studios, Director of Social Enterprise Iconic Music Dance Drama Ltd and Trustee for Voluntary Action Leicester. After realising the opportunities available in the East Midlands she moved here permanently in 2014 and hasn’t looked back. Kelly won the EMWA Outstanding Women in Arts, Media & Music 2019 Award.
Sue Grogan
Sue has turned her business, Joined-Up Working from concept to reality in a very short time, but her skills, knowledge and experience go back many years. Supporting businesses and the people they employ through some of their life challenges gives her great satisfaction and spurs her on to help others.
Without their contribution, it would be very difficult to complete this task each year. A huge thank you all of you.
